zen pottery experience
Pottery & yoga...does it get any better than this?
Where you'll be...
The cracked pot studio is in my beautiful backyard in downtown Rifle Colorado. What started as a chicken coop is now an eclectic fun art studio. The studio has a very rustic feel with the original barn wood siding and historic windows. Enjoy a view of the back yard and the Roan cliffs in the backdrop while being entertained by my 3 cats, Jacklyn, Sass & Chevy. The studio has an electric potters wheel, three kilns and everything you need to create your own unique ceramic piece from start to finish.
What you'll do...
During your Zen Pottery Experience you can expect to create a few of your own unique pieces of pottery.
Part I: We’ll begin your experience with some relaxation & breathing exercises to calm your mind and help you to get in to a connected heart space. Then get your hands dirty and accustomed to the clay with a bit of hand building. Next we move on to the wheel to try your hand at throwing a pot (just like in the movie Ghost). You’ll get plenty of tips from a professional potter while enjoying your own unique experience. Once you’ve thoroughly spent your hands with pottery you'll wind down with a few gentle yoga poses and a guided relaxation to undo any tension from your work.
Part II: After you've completed Part I of your experience your creations will need to be fired and glazed. This will require you to come back to the studio to glaze your pots. The timing for your second session could be anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks after you make your pots.
What's included?
All the pottery tools you'll need, yoga mat and props, refreshments.

Meet your host Misty...
I come from a long line of artists and so I’ve been surrounded by creativity and art my entire life. I began making pottery in 2003 at our local community college, CMC. I took to it and before I knew it I had more hand made pottery than I knew what to do with. I began to sell my work and eventually it became a desire to create a personal studio. It started with the chicken shed in the back yard being turned into a pottery studio, the rest is history. The pottery studio is fully equipped with electric and natural gas kilns, a potters wheel and everything else you need to create pottery.
Yoga found me in 2003 when I was struggling with multiple sports injuries. I began practicing as each student does, once a week and soon became hooked. After a few years of this my teacher at the time moved and suggested that I take a teacher training. Teaching was not on my to do list but I decided to take her advice and took my first teacher training at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas. I’ve been teaching yoga ever since. That was 15 years ago. Since then I've opened a yoga studio (Mistyoga), lead yoga retreats and done my best to share yoga as much as I can. I have 500 hour EYT in yoga.
