~something of meaning to you to place on the altar
~ your instrument - anyone will do, but more about that later
~ your resolution/intention
The year almost raps up on the longest night, the winter solstice.
"At the time of the winter solstice, we create a sacred space by pausing to reflect and connect with the light within; enabling us to radiate warmth and sunshine as we move through the dark winter days towards spring." (edited excerpt from Llewellyn's Witches' Datebook 2021) Pause, reflect and connect - a powerful and necessary practice for helping ourselves heal. Gift yourself with a magical boost to move forward, leave the troubling parts of the previous year behind, and begin anew at the winter solstice when the sun is reborn.
This feels like the perfect remedy at this point in the calendar and I can only hope that you're as fired up as I am. I'd settle for excited, perhaps even overjoyed, which simply means “very happy.” How about elated, which is somewhere between “happy” and “overjoyed.” Glad? “Glad” is similar to “pleased.” Usually, we're all glad at some point about something in particular, like when we've accomplished 108 sun salutes! Pure gladness!
If this is your first time making a date with 108 you may feel overcome with doubt at the prospect. Overcome simply means to get the better of in a struggle or conflict. Conquer on the other hand means defeat. To overcome the enemy, to prevail over (opposition, temptations, etc.) is different. Surmount is a great word: to overcome one's weaknesses.
Triumph could also be used in this situation as a noun meaning an especially significant or noteworthy victory, as in your completion of 108 was a triumph—a win that places you
among the all-time greats in the struggle against difficulties and obstacles.
I shared this story last year but I think I'll share it again...year before last we had an unexpected new student join us. A gentleman (whose name will remain anonymous) who none of us had met in or outside of the studio, he just showed up. Dropped in you could say. He shared that he had been eyeing the studio for some time wanting to check it out and when he learned of the 108 practice he knew that now was that time. He was in his 70's, hadn't practiced yoga in 20 years and I was skeptical. Honestly I was a bit concerned that he would injure himself after being off his mat for so long. He, I imagine felt the same way. He did his best, rested at times, sweated, laughed, cryed (just kidding) and finished. It was awesome for all of us to share in his journey and a triumphant victory for sure. When he finished he had the biggest smile on his face and he left the studio glowing. I learned a lot about limitation that day both for myself and others. The cool part is... he came back again last year:)
We need to honor where we are in our practice and at the same time not let fear make our decisions. Resolve to do as much as you can, you may surprise yourself. SHOW UP! Bring your strength of heart and what you are unable to do physically you can do mentally. Envisioning a sun salute can be equally (if not more) powerful.
When we show up with an open mind and heart the Universe opens to us. It is said that when we desperately want something the entire Universe conspires to help us.
What do you desperately want?
For me it's the journey, I know how it will change and grow me in the direction I want to go and in the end that is what fires me up. Everything in between just is.
A better me = a happier me = a better world!
In this growing season, resolve to stay connected to your inner light and be guided by your inner wisdom. Ask yourself, "What can I bring out into the light over the coming months? What will I bring out into the light? And what must I bring out into the light?"
Energizing yoga poses like Warrior I (Virabhadrasana I) can lift your spirits, boost your happy hormones, and remind you of your inner Warrior.
In Light,
Misty
