Making room!
Hello soul friend Fall is here in Western Colorado and I am feeling a lot... The air is changing. The light is softer. The mornings carry a little more coolness. There is a lot to absorb WHEN we show up and let it in. Fall is a time of year that I love and it also carries with it an acute sensitivity to life. Not always as sadness. Sometimes it is heaviness. A tenderness. A longing. A desire to be still. I am making room for it all and not trying to push it away. Can you feel me? Life has moments that take courage to be with. Loss. Heartbreak. Grief. The endings we didn’t choose. Where do you go when you feel something arising? When we begin to feel deeply, our mind reaches for safety...words, to understand, explain, find the reason, know when it will end. But some experiences ask us to leave the mind behind and drop down in to our body. A felt sense of what is. Begin by just opening... Breathe - feel the chest & belly as they rise and fall with each breath. Feel the weight of what the heart is holding...is it heavy or light or somewhere in between? What is happening behind the eyes? Just feel it with your attention. Feel what is happening in the throat. Behind the ribs. Tune into sensations... A pulse beneath the skin, Warmth or coolness in our own hands, The ground holding our weight. Let the breath move through the places where you've been holding tight. There is no story here. Nothing to solve. Only sensation. And the courage to stay close enough to feel it. With compassion. This is where it gets vulnerable. Because we don’t know what will happen when we stop controlling the experience. We may cry or feel overwhelmed as we choose to soften. We might discover something underneath the pain that we weren’t ready to meet before. So we breathe. Loosen. And let ourselves sink a little deeper into the moment. Into the rawness - the tenderness - the mystery. When we allow ourselves to sink in something happens. Boundaries between us and the universe thin and we begin to feel the subtle things. Like a breeze that rolls across our skin or the scent of wet earth after the rain, Sunlight warm on our face. A hand resting on our heart. This is not a thinking about life kind of moment. This is a feeling life fully, viscerally, and alive kind of moment. A doorway-- through the heart that keeps opening and breaking and opening again as we deeply surrender to what is here, This is the practice of staying-- for the grief and for the beauty. Staying for the moments that take our breath away so that we can be touched and moved by this life. This is how we experience the whole of it. This invitation: is to not only to get through this life or just touch the surface, but to let yourself be fully and deeply here for it. Let go of the shore and trust the currents of life to take you there. In Light, Misty
